Mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded within the 12S rRNA gene. Functions as an exercise mimetic targeting metabolic homeostasis. 99% purity. Synthesized in a cGMP facility with stringent quality controls.
MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA Type-c) is a 16-amino acid peptide (MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR) encoded within the mitochondrial genome's 12S rRNA gene. With a molecular weight of approximately 2,174 Da, MOTS-c represents a class of mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs) that have emerged as significant research targets in metabolic biology.
Research has investigated MOTS-c as an exercise mimetic that targets metabolic homeostasis through AMPK pathway activation. Preclinical studies in murine models have examined its effects on skeletal muscle glucose uptake, fatty acid oxidation, and metabolic adaptation. Investigators have documented that MOTS-c translocates to the nucleus under metabolic stress conditions, where it may regulate nuclear gene expression through interactions with antioxidant response elements (ARE). Research has also explored its potential role in folate-methionine cycle regulation and AICAR accumulation, linking mitochondrial signaling to one-carbon metabolism.
The proposed mechanism involves MOTS-c activation of AMPK signaling cascades, modulation of the folate cycle leading to AICAR accumulation, and subsequent effects on cellular energy sensing and metabolic gene expression. Studies have also investigated its potential role in aging-related metabolic research.
Viking Labs synthesizes research-grade MOTS-c at a USA-based cGMP facility. Third-party HPLC analysis confirms 99%+ purity. Certificate of Analysis, batch serialization, and sterile fill included with every order.
