Copper tripeptide GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring peptide-copper complex found in human plasma, saliva, and urine. 99% purity, USA made. Synthesized in a cGMP facility with stringent quality controls.
GHK-Cu (Glycyl-L-Histidyl-L-Lysine:Copper(II)) is a naturally occurring tripeptide-copper complex (MW ~403 Da) found in human plasma, saliva, and urine. First isolated by Loren Pickart in 1973, GHK-Cu concentrations in human plasma decline significantly with age, from approximately 200 ng/mL at age 20 to 80 ng/mL by age 60, a correlation that has driven research interest in this compound.
Research has examined GHK-Cu's role in extracellular matrix remodeling, investigating its effects on collagen synthesis, glycosaminoglycan production, and decorin expression. Studies in cell culture and animal models have documented its ability to modulate expression of over 4,000 genes at very low concentrations. Preclinical research has examined effects on metalloproteinase activity, antioxidant enzyme expression (superoxide dismutase, glutathione), and copper-dependent biological processes including angiogenesis, nerve outgrowth, and fibroblast proliferation. Investigators have also explored GHK-Cu's role in modulating TGF-beta superfamily signaling and its potential influence on stem cell marker expression.
Mechanistically, GHK-Cu functions as a copper delivery vehicle and signaling molecule. The copper ion is essential for activity of lysyl oxidase (collagen crosslinking), superoxide dismutase (antioxidant defense), and cytochrome c oxidase (mitochondrial respiration). The peptide component modulates integrin receptor signaling and gene expression patterns.
